Assassin's Creed Shadows has hit an impressive two million players, becoming the series' second-biggest ever launch.
News in brief
- AC Shadows hit two million players on Friday.
- This puts it ahead of Origins and Odyssey and only just behind Valhalla.
- The action RPG is currently the second most-played PlayStation game in the US.
In a post on X on Friday, AC UK announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows had hit the impressive player count, saying, "It has now surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey."
According to a report by VGC, AC Shadows is the franchise's second-biggest launch behind Valhalla with one million players on launch day. Valhalla had some notable advantages over Shadows, launching in November, just in time for the holidays, and right before much of the world went into lockdown for the pandemic.
The title, which launched on PC and consoles on March 20, is the 14th major instalment in the AC series, and delivered the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in the history of the franchise, right behind Valhalla. In the PlayStation Digital Store, it was the best ever Day 1 launch for Ubisoft and currently ranks as the second most-played game in the US on PlayStation, with a 4.76 out of 5 rating.
The Japan-set action RPG is also the most-wishlisted Ubisoft title of all time, with fans anxiously awaiting its release following a number of delays and setbacks. The game was initially planned for a November 2024 launch before this was moved to February 14, and finally March 20.
It's the first major Ubisoft title to release Day One on Steam since 2019, and owes a lot to Steam for its performance on PC, with around 27% of total activations (including full game sales and Ubisoft subscription downloads) on PC. The game's peak concurrent players also hit 64,825 on Steam.
