While it's easy to say that professional football is a game dominated by men, that doesn't mean that there isn't a big industry behind the female focused version of it too. To respect that, the next version of the FIFA computer game will come with the ability to play as female squads for the first time ever.
Admittedly we aren't talking about the in-depth leagues that are available for the male version of the game, but if you want to play as one of 12 different teams as part of a female international competition, you can do.
The teams that will appear in the game include England, Australia, France, Brazil, China, Germany, Canada, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and of course, the US.
"Bringing some of the best women’s players and teams in the world to our franchise is a massive event for EA Sports, and we are equally excited about bringing millions of fans a new way to play," said EA Sports boss David Rutter (via PCG).
"We’re making sure fans get an authentic experience when playing with Women’s National Teams thanks to our innovative player capture and reference tools, as well as the sophisticated gameplay platform which we will continue to innovate on in FIFA 16."
Just as with the male teams in the game, developers at EA Sports flew their mo-cap specialists to different parts of the world to capture the likeness of the world's best female players and even rejigged the way they record motion capture in order to take into consideration the different body types of the players.
