God of War Ragnarok on PC can give you fewer hints

God of War Ragnarok has finally arrived on PC, and Sony Santa Monica have thrown in a few helpful changes for PC gamers. Specifically, they've added an option that lets you tone down your "helpful" companions, stopping them from blurting out the solution for puzzles moments after you come across them.

News in brief

  • God of War Ragnarok's release on PC comes with some extra options
  • It helps to stop your companions from being so helpful
  • PC players should avoid some of the frustrations console players had

God of War Ragnarok has released on Steam, and one of the more notable quality of life changes immediately noticed by the God of War community is a setting that lets you make your companions less chatty. Specifically, it stops them from giving you puzzle hints way too soon.

God of War Ragnarok is a fast-paced, action-heavy brawler that sees you, the titular (though former) God of War move from area to area, dismembering hordes of enemies while fending off dramatic bosses who like to talk a little too much for being permanently angry large men. So with that in mind, you can forgive Sony Santa Monica from assuming players won't want to linger on the game's many puzzles for too long. So your companions will let you know when you're missing an obvious solution for the puzzle you're on.

Helpful, right? It turns out the feature was overtuned on Ragnarok's initial release, and console players quickly became tired of Atreus or Mimir telling them the solution to puzzles before they'd had a chance to get their bearings. Console players had to languish in annoyance, but PC gamers are getting the chance to stop that from happening, thanks to the option that increases the amount of time between a puzzle starting, and you being outright told what the solution is. Sure, non-stop action can dull the old grey cells a little bit, but it seems as if the original setting was massively too fast, and that being fixed is a big win for everyone. Even console players, because the option will also be coming to God of War Ragnarok on consoles too.
