When it comes to shooters, be they first or third-person, the keyboard and mouse is the superior input mechanism. PC gamers have known this for more than 20 years and it's part of the reason that cross-platform play isn't typically allowed between PC and other platforms for those genres of games. That's exactly what's happening with PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on mobile though, where those using emulators to play with a keyboard and mouse are dominating those restricted to touch play.
It's not even difficult to do either. If you have a Chromecast, you can stream the game to your TV and then use a keyboard and mouse connected through that device. You can also use an Android emulator, or run a full Android-based operating system like Phoenix OS for x86 on your PC and do the same. You'd be going to a lot of effort to play against people in an unfair fashion it you did, but when has that ever stopped people from doing so?
This is a problem we've seen elsewhere too, as Kotaku points out. In Fortnite, which has a major console focus, despite its PC popularity, those using specialized hardware to use keyboard and mouse controls on consoles are winning more often than not. It's the problem of having a more accurate and versatile movement and aiming system than a two stick controller, or even the touch interface of a mobile. Even just playing on a larger screen can have a huge impact on your ability to see enemies and get the first shot off in a fight.
It could be that in the near future platforms where these games are exceedingly popular ultimately end up being dominated by those using the best controls as much as they do by the best gamers.
Do any of you use keyboard and mouse on a platform you shouldn't just to get ahead?
