Respawn, the developer of popular shooters like Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends, is set to revive the Medal of Homor brand under its new masters at EA. Called Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, the VR game will land on the Oculus Rift in 2020 and will be a largely set-piece shooter with a variety of weapons to use across a variety of missions.
We're told that Above and Beyond will feature over 50 levels split across three acts, and will take place exclusively in World War II, between 1943 and 1945, as the Nazi regime began its protracted contraction across Europe. The whole game will last around 10-12 hours, according to PCGamer.
The game will blend some of the more simulation-like VR shooters out there, with the more action-focused gameplay of wave shooters. Guns will be attached to your back and hips, giving you immediate access to a powerful arsenal. But you'll have to reach for them to equip them, and you'll need to manually remove magazines and clips and replace them with fresh ones to keep firing.
You'll also be able to interact with the environment around you to craft traps for the enemy, distract them, or just be silly in a virtual playground.
But this doesn't mean that you'll just be stood in place or blinking around the map. Above and Beyond will use full locomotion, so those who suffer particularly from VR-induced nausea may struggle with this one.
Above and Beyond is slated to release sometime in 2020, with a more firm release date coming towards the end of this year.
