Licensing issues have been the bane of great games for years, and Alan Wake was one such casualty. It disappeared from sale on digital platforms in 2017 and hasn't been available since. However, Remedy Entertainment has now re-acquired the license and to celebrate its now teasing that we may see Alan Wake make his return on a variety of platforms.
"The only thing we want to clarify, now that Remedy owns the publishing rights, is that we could bring Alan Wake to different platforms if we so choose," a Remedy spokesperson told Eurogamer.
"We have nothing to announce for now. We are fully focused on Control releasing on 27th August."
With statements like these, it's not yet clear where Remedy plans to relaunch Alan Wake, but considering its somewhat strained relationship with Microsoft following the bomb that was Quantum Break, we'd expect it to appear on just about everything. A Switch port would likely prove popular since that platform has become a hotbed of indie content over the past couple of years.
Alan Wake might have high-end visuals, but its gameplay is certainly indie-esque.
