Cyberpunk 2077 player unearths horrific secret area after 700 hours of playtime

A Redditor with over 700 hours of playtime in Cyberpunk 2077 stumbled across a horrifying secret area and shared the news with fellow gamers.

News in brief

  • The secret area contains piles of what appears to be bodies.
  • Upon closer inspection, the gruesome "murder" scene is actually a load of mannequins.
  • CD Projekt Red developers say there are still plenty of secrets for players to discover in the game.

Redditor "UnworthyYellow" shared the news of the find in a post in r/cyberpunkgame, saying they had played "700+ hours" and found something they'd never seen before.

The area in eastern Badlands is marked on the map by a miniscule red dot, and on first impressions, appears to be a gory murder scene, with dozens of bodies. Upon looking closer, players will be relieved to find the bodies are not actually humans but undeniably creepy mannequins, left to rot in the elements.

This seems like a pretty strange thing to stumble across in a game, but the OP was quick to reveal the Cyberpunk 2077 lore behind their find:

"There was a shard that said this was the set of a movie called Hell Lake 3. Apparently, the studio lost a major sponsor, and had to stop production."

Playing a game for over 700 hours and stumbling across something new is pretty impressive, and Redditor BigTastyCJ praised CD Projekt Red for their storytelling:

"I came across this completely by accident, then I looked into it. The attention to detail in this game never fails to amaze me."

CD Projekt Red developers have often claimed that players are still nowhere close to uncovering all of Cyberpunk 2077's secrets. That's no mean feat considering the game released five years ago and a sequel, codenamed Orion, is already in the works. It makes us wonder just how vast a world Orion will be, since the title is sure to retain the open world structure of its predecessor.

There's no official launch date for the game yet, but it reportedly entered early development at the start of 2024, so we could see it before the end of the decade, if all goes well. Whether it will be as famously buggy on launch as the first game remains to be seen!
