Grab the game during this sale and you'll be able to get it for just $3.50 — is this the final sign that Warner Bros. Games are chancing one final throw of the dice?
News in brief
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, is available for just $3.50 in the Steam Autumn Sale
- This represents a massive 95% discount
- Is Warner Bros. Games giving up on the live service game?
It's not uncommon for triple-A games to get big, big discounts during Steam sales, but it is extremely unusual for games this young to get such massive price drops. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a spiritual follow-up to the Batman Arkham game series, starring a few fan favourite characters as they seek to combat and, yes, eventually kill the members of the Justice League, who have been mind-controlled by arch-villain Brainiac.
This sounds like a winning formula, but Suicide Squad was beset with problems from even before day one. Development was extremely prolonged, with many doubting whether the game would even release. When it finally released, it was an unwelcome sight. Beset with live service elements, many found the game to be repetitive and boring, despite the bold characters. Warner Bros. Games hoped the game would be vitalized by further content packs, but despite releasing the Joker as the first new character, fans discovered they had to repeat content yet again to unlock the new character, leading many to abandon the game.
So it's been an unhappy time for the game, and this has been very evident in the game's sudden price drop. A massive drop to $3.50 means this fledgling game is now less expensive than Arkham Knight, a game in the same series that's almost a full decade old. It's clear this is a desperation move to try and get more players in the game, and while the game does seem like a real bargain at this price, we counsel some care. Given the game is a live service game, it's entirely possible Warner Bros. Games could just turn off the servers at an unspecified point soon, and make the game unplayable. So even this price has some serious caveats.
