Get Suicide Squad: KIll the Justice League free on Amazon Prime from July 16

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League hasn't had a particularly smooth ride. Despite coming from the same team that made the celebrated and incredible Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad has struggled, coming a cropper even before it launched. The embattled game has fought a losing battle to keep players playing, and the next step is giving the game away to Amazon Prime members for free.

News in brief:

  • Suicide Squad will be made free for 48 hours
  • Only Amazon Prime members will get the deal
  • It joins two other games, Chivalry 2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration

The promotion starts on July 16, and will run for 48 hours as part of Prime Day. As you might expect, you only have those 48 hours to claim the game, and once the time is up, the deal is gone. It will redeem to the Epic Games Store, where it can join the likely hundreds of other free games you've redeemed on there.

Suicide Squad will join two other games in this deal, Chivalry 2 and Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration. Unlike the other two games, which are years old, Suicide Squad isn't even six months old yet, showing quite how big a hole Warner Bros. have dug themselves with this game.

How could a game from such a big developer with such a popular licence have struggled so much? In short: Live service models. The basic frame of the game is solid, and the idea is great: Set villains against brainwashed versions of the Justice League, and take them down to protect the world. Unfortunately, that great premise has been hamstrung by a live service model that clearly wasn't needed or wanted, and having to balance that against gameplay needs has resulted in a game that just isn't up to snuff, especially when it needs to go up against industry titans like Fortnite or Destiny 2, which already have their dedicated fans. In short, players don't have the time, money, or desire for another money and time-sucking live service game, and Suicide Squad has plummeted as a result.

But a lot of sins can be covered by offering a game for free, and it's possible Warner Bros. may get the boost in players they want by offering the game for free. It'll be available to claim from July 16.
