Separately, Sony and Nintendo have announced their PS3 and 3DS cumulative sales figures today.
According to Sony, the 50 millionth PlayStation 3 console was sold on March 29th, 2011. 8 million PlayStation Move controllers have been sold by that time as well.
Coincidently, Nintendo has also announced its 3DS sales figure which turned out to 400,000 units sold during its first week in market. For comparison, the original Nintendo DS sold 500,000 units during its launch week.
"We are very satisfied with this start and we look forward to the momentum that we will build on Nintendo 3DS with the launch of the E-shop, the launch of the 3-D trailers for Hollywood movies and the launch of "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" in mid June, as well as the launch of Netflix later on in the summer," Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president, commented.
