$8,000 + worth of ships and cargo destroyed in Eve's Burn Jita event

The annual, Burn Jita event that sees thousands of Eve Online players invade one of the galaxy's safest systems to destroy everything that's worth something - namely Freighters - has concluded as a resounding success over the past few days - depending on your perspective.

In total, more than 700 billion ISK worth of damage was done, which works out to more than $8,000 if you were to buy it all manually and even more so if you were to buy the ships directly.

Organised as usual by the Goonswarm, the largest alliance within the Imperium collective, the aggressors in the Jita system have managed to sink more than 160 Freighters at the time of writing, as well as 19 Jump Freighters and 22 large haulers. In return they lost around 20,000 destroyers, which is no small number - though their worth is around one percent of that of the ships they have managed to destroy.

This is the fifth year that the Burn Jita event has run, which makes you wonder why people would continue to ship their goods even in hi-security safe zones during this time, but it seems people were willing to brave the storm, perhaps with the promise of financial reward if their supplies could make it through the deadly blockage.

For many of them though, that wasn't possible and a lot of time, effort and money has been lost during another catastrophically successful event (as per Kotaku).

Did you guys lose any ships of your own over the weekend? Or were you one of the nefarious individuals who struck without warning as part of Burn Jita 2017?
