Alien Covenant experience coming to virtual reality

One of the biggest misses of the early release of both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, was in not-partnering with Creative Assembly to port the excellent VR-prototype release of Alien: Isolation that worked on the DK2, to the consumer releases of both major headsets. Still, it looks like there may be a patch in the works for that and now there's word that there will be a VR tie in experience to coincide with the release of the Alien Covenant movie.

It won't be a free release however, so we're expecting a little more than a couple of minutes of pre-scripted, on-rails action, or some sort of quick jump scare experience. Presumably it won't cost the earth, but it will need to be worthwhile if people are expected to pay up.

"Viewers will discover the true meaning of terror as they navigate through horrifying alien environments and a story where every decision could mean the difference between life and death," according to Fox Innovation labs (via ).

We're told that the tone is one of deep dread too, which is exactly what you want from an alien experience. Not the jumps care silliness of Alien: Colonial Marines, but the creeping sense that the xenomorph is out there somewhere in the dark, skittering around.

Extra good news, is that this experience is being produced by Ridley Scott, so he has a hand in its making and the Innovation Labs working on it previously produced the well received The Martian experience too.

Are you pumped for a new Alien? Since none of the films have even come close since the original two, I'm always sceptical, but quietly hopeful it returns to its strong roots.
