Premium gaming PC brand, Alienware, may be getting into the bespoke components market. The Dell subsidiary has been at the forefront of PC gaming machines for many years, but it's only ever created its own branded systems. That might change in the future, though, as Dell XPS GM Frank Azor told PCGamesN, that Alienware could bring its style to individual PC components in the future.
"It absolutely is [something we're interested in]," Frank Azor said. "And, you know, funnily enough talking to NZXT their inspiration for the company was Alienware because they wanted the Alienware chassis [Predator] and they didn’t want to necessarily buy the entire system – and that’s the only way you’ve ever been able to get an Alienware. But, yeah, it’s absolutely a segment of the market that we are looking at."
However, he did add the caveat that Alienware wasn't interested in creating something budget-orientated. Alienware will be looking to create something premium only and that does make it quite difficult to get into certain markets. Graphics cards, for instance, have a notoriously poor margin for third-party sellers and that goes doubly so for the current-generation of Nvidia RTX graphics cards.
"On the component side, it hasn’t been a primary focus for us, yet," Azor said, "because we struggled to really come up with ways we can do it better. You’ve got some really great component companies out there. Some of the graphics card partners are very good at what they do, they’ve mastered the art of overclocking and they’ve mastered building high quality, highly reliable add-in boards. You’ve got SSD manufacturers out there that are doing an exceptionally good job.
So, Alienware isn't just looking to slap its name on something, it wants to create something that's different and a viable option. The question is, what could it create?
