With its second-generation Threadripper chips now readily available and still upcoming in the months to come for those wanting maximum multithreading performance in the modern age, AMD is looking to sell off all existing stock of its first-generation chips which though capable, don't approach the Ryzen 2000 chips in terms of multi-core potential. To that end, it's slashing prices on the Threadripper 1900X, 1920X and 1950X to very attractive points.
These sale prices aren't quite as impressive as the flash sale $250 1920X we saw a few weeks ago, but the new prices are no less attractive and are across the whole range, rather than focused on that particular chip. They are as follows:
AMD 1900X with eight cores and 16 threads for $315
AMD 1920X with 12 cores and 24 threads for $460
AMD 1950X with 16 cores and 32 threads for $715
These prices are mirrored in multiple territories, including in countries like the UK where the 20 percent VAT sales tax usually pushes their prices beyond what's available in the U.S.
These chips are of course noticeably weaker in the core department than their second-generation counterparts. The 2990WX has 32 cores and 64 threads, while the lower end 1920X has 12 cores and 24 threads. But those chips are also much more expensive. The 2990WX will cost you as much as $1,800, so the first gen Threadripper discounts make them quite a deal.
