Following expanding news that Nvidia's GeForce Partner Program may be designed to specifically benefit Nvidia over its AMD competition, AMD has hit back with a new manifesto that pledges to offer better gamer support and more open innovation than the competition.
Written by vice president and GM of the Radeon Group within AMD, Scott Herkelman, the address to the wider gaming community claims to want to put the power of "choice" back in the hands of gamers. Moving forward, it plans to see the release of brand new ranges of AMD graphics cards at various manufacturers, with greater choice and a commitment to "openness, innovation and inclusivity." Whatever that entails in a profit-driven hardware space.
The key values that Herkehlman claims AMD will focus on in the years to come include:
- A dedication to innovation, in which AMD will continue to support the latest technologies and try new hardware standards, like DirectX12, Vulkan, High Bandwidth memory and the GPUOpen Initiative.
- A commitment to true transparency through industry standards, whereby it will continue to support open platforms like Freesync, over proprietary platforms like Nvidia's GSync.
- Real partnerships with consistency, where add-in-board partners are given the freedom of choice to sell AMD cards how they wish.
- Expanding the PC ecosystems by continuing to develop and improve hardware and software after their initial release, offering long-term improvements to gamers who are early adopters.
He even goes so far as to state that: "We pledge to put premium, high-performance graphics cards in the hands of as many gamers as possible and give our partners the support they need without anti-competitive conditions. "
That's a claim no one can make at the moment though, as GPUs are still have to find and pricey at that.
