AMD's latest GPU launch lineup wasn't exactly mind blowing, even if the high end Fiji XT cards were rather different with their shortened PCB and stock water cooling solutions. In comparison the 300 series was rather drab, featuring mostly rebranded cards which were themselves rebrands from the 7000 series of graphics hardware from four years previously.
They did feature extra memory, clock speeds and improved drivers, but it didn't seem to be enough to impress those that were expecting something new. Something more akin to the Fury cards.
Still, that doesn't mean they aren't selling at all and in typical fashion AMD is looking to flesh out the range so that it has something for every price point. The latest rumor is for the 380X graphics card which has been confirmed as coming with 4GB of GDDR5 and a 256-bit memory bus.
Other specifications peg its GPU as sporting 2048 stream processors, and 128 texture mapping units, as per Wccftech. Its TDP is said to be somewhere around the 200w mark, showing that AMD's GPUs continue to be a lot less energy efficient than their Nvidia alternatives.
However as usual AMD is expected to price this card very competitively, making it a viable purchase for anyone looking to upgrade from their older 200 series GPU. This one also has the advantage of being fully Vulkan and DirectX12 compliant, so is capable of handling all of the new standards of processing that will be so important over the next few years.
Pricing is currently unknown, but the card is expected to launch before the end of the year, so it won't be long until we know its true cost.
