AMD has released a new beta for its Radeon Software Adrenaline drivers, termed 18.2.1. Although not a major release by any measure, the new driver suite fixes a few issues with a handful of games, as well as a longstanding problem with Freesync which caused issues with refresh rate changes.
Counter to its practice in years gone by, AMD has been far more regular with its driver updates in the past year. That was part of its strategy moving forward with the Vega RX release in 2017 and came off of similar promises made with its release of Zen hardware in the earlier part of the year. This is a new AMD we're dealing with now and it's been much more regular with its releases since -- a real boon for most gamers.
That means that we get releases like this one, which doesn't exactly change the world, but they're nice additions anyhow. The changes in this release include:
- Added support for Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age.
- Freesync no longer rapidly changes between mix and max range when enabled.
- No more Freesync black screen issues on some Samsung displays.
- Civilisation V no longer fails to launch on Hybrid graphics systems.
- Radeon Chill game settings profiles no longer fail on Vulkan games.
- Radeon Overlay no longer fails to open on some Vulkan games.
- Need for Speed Payback terrain corruption is now fixes.
- Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth V Generation no longer has flickering textures.
