A result for the recently-rumored Polaris 30 GPU from AMD, likely to be called the RX 590, or the RX 680, has been spotted on 3DMark's database and it comes in clocked a full 200MHz higher than the reference RX 580. That gives it a score that not only beats its predecessor but trounces the 6GB version of Nvidia's GTX 1060.
The most popular graphics card in the world, according to Steam's hardware survey, is the GTX 1060. The RX 580 has always been a strong competitor for it, but due to pricing problems brought on by cryptocurrency miners buying up all the stock, it was hard for gamers to actually get ahold of one. That's changed as of late, but with Nvidia expected to debut a GTX 2060 at some point in the next few months, many gamers are holding off.
But perhaps that will change after this coming weekend. AMD is expected to launch an RX 590 graphics card in the next few days (thanks VideoCardz) and if the new 3DMark scores are anything to go by, it could be the best mid-range card available.
It scored a combined graphics score of 5,028, with an individual graphics score of 4,759. That's close to 25 percent higher than a GTX 1060 with a comparable CPU and it's only around 15 percent off of what a Fury X can achieve, putting this card somewhere between a GTX 1060 and a GTX 1070 -- a very attractive sweet spot for 1080P and 1440P gaming.
The big question is what will it cost? If it comes in at around the $200 price point, AMD could have a real winner on its hands as we head into the Christmas season, as any RX-generation GTX 2060 cards are expected to be as expensive compared to their predecessors as the new RTX 2070, 2080, and 2080 Ti have been.
