Some new leaked benchmarks for the upcoming AMD RX 6700 XT graphics card have hit the internet, and they're promising. They suggest that the mid-range card will be just as capable if not more so than the RTX 3070 in many games and applications, especially at 1440p. It will fall behind when it comes to ray tracing, and DLSS supporting games will give the RTX card a serious advantage, but in terms of raw power, the likely-cheaper AMD card will be the more capable at general rasterization.
The RX 6700 XT is AMD's replacement GPU for the first-generation RDNA card, the 5700 XT. It will have 12GB of GDDR6 memory, utilize the infinity cache, support hardware accelerated ray tracing, and come with a seriously high clock speed.
This was expected to equate to performance somewhere between the RTX 3060 Ti and the 3070 — chasing the tail of the RTX 2080 Ti. But in fact, it may be that the 6700 XT is so aggressively clocked that it will be nipping at the heels or even surpassing the RTX 3070 in games where ray tracing isn't an option or enabled. When it is, the AMD card will fall behind even the 3060 Ti, though in some games where it has received significant optimization, like World of Warcraft, it may hold a commanding lead still.
While the RX 6700 XT was initially rumored to have poor stock levels, there are now suggestions that stock levels have been much improved in the lead up. If that proves accurate, this could be the standout graphics card of its generation — simply because gamers get their hands on it.
Look forward to more details as we get closed to the card's launch on the 18th.
