Details of AMD's upcoming Ryzen CPUs have been leaked, including the release date, pricing, and full specs for its range of more modest 5000 series processors. More importantly, though, we now know when the high-end 5800X3D will launch: April 20, with a relatively-modest price tag of $450.
AMD's 5800X3D has been one of its more intriguing announcements for the best part of a year. A CPU that no one saw coming, and is set to soon be replaced by its Zen 4 successors. But when it does debut, now as soon as April 20, it should be the most powerful gaming processor in the world. Allegedly upwards of 15% faster than a 5800X in gaming, and therefore likely to eclipse Intel's 12900K, this eight core, 16 thread CPU will have an extra 64MB of L3 cache, trippling its existing 32MB, and reportedly making it much faster in many games.
The clock speed has been reduced to keep it within the 105W TDP limit AMD set itself, but it's possible that you'll be able to get that back with overclocking -- although some rumors suggest overclocking will be disabled on this CPU, for some reason. Either way, though, it should be very fast, and at $450, it'll undercut the Intel competition too.
It'll be joined shortly by a range of more modest Ryzen 5000 CPUs, including the 5700X, the 5600, 5500, and 5300G, alongside some select 4000-series chips. They'll all feature lower clock speeds than their existing counterparts, providing more cost-effective solutions to those looking to build entry-level gaming PCs.
They will also likely act as entry-level chips for the next year or so, as AMD will likely launch its Zen 4 Ryzen 7000 generation with exclusively high-end CPUs, as it did with Zen 3.
