AMD may not offer anything in the hexacore range with its upcoming line up of Ryzen CPUs, if new rumors are to be believed. It could be that when the new Zen chips launch in the coming months, that they will only come in quad core and octo core variants.
This rumor comes from Thai site ) which claims it spoke to a reliable source within AMD.
With no hexacore chips, it will be interesting to see what AMD does to offer a competitive product to Intel's Core-i5 series. It's expected that it will look to offer a comparable CPU to Intel's entire line up, with quad cores aimed at taking on the Core i3 chips, and the octocores targeting the Core i7s.
It could be that it uses its version of hyperthreading, known as simultaneous multi-threading, to that end, disabling it in the octocore versions to cull performance slightly.
Regardless of how many cores they come with though, we're quite interested to see what comes of AMD's new CPU hardware. With unlocked multipliers across the board and some factory overclocking and perhaps even auto-overclocking depending on cooling and available power, AMD's Ryzen CPUs may not just be an attractive proposition for overclockers and enthusiasts, but could make solid mainstream processors too.
