Speaking to Reuters, research company iSuppli analyst, Pamela Tufegdzic, said that they "anticipate Sony will have another price slash on the PS3 this year, and come Christmas, consumers who originally bought the Wii will likely purchase the PS3."
Pamela then elaborated that "2008 will be a turning year for the PS3 - Sony is offering a better forthcoming software pipeline with blockbuster titles like Gran Turismo 5, which will boost PS3 sales this year."
The analyst didn't mention it, but IBM has already shrunk the cell processor which powers the Playstation 3 to 45nm, and consequently, reduced its price. At the moment Sony loses an unannounced some with every Playstation 3 sold, so they might choose to pass the savings to their fans and benefit from a sales boost, or to keep the current price and cut down the losses.
