If you ever wanted to learn about Egypt's culture, its history and some of the more out there practices it had over the millennia, Assassin's Creed Origins will help you do it first hand. The game that will be about swinging around ancient Egypt slaying enemies and attempting to thwart the Knights Templar at every turn will also come with its own educational mode, devoid of all violence.
Set to be released as a free update in early 2018, the "Discovery Mode," as it's called, will offer 20 minute guided tours with voice over and custom animations to show you everything from how famous Egyptian leaders lived, to how specific burial practices worked.
Ubisoft claims to have consulted with heavily qualified academics to craft the educational tours and sees the development of the "Discovery Mode," as something that could open up the game to new audiences who aren't necessarily interested in slaying their way through ancient Egypt, but would still be keen to experience what the old world was like (thanks PCGamer).
Although that may sound far-fetched, there have been many reports of teachers using other Assassin's Creed games, letting children experience certain elements of early America, the French revolution or Victorian England, through the eyes of the protagonists. Considering the violent nature of the Assassin's Creed games, there will always be limits to how much the teachers can show, especially to younger audiences.
With Orgins' Discovery Mode though, that could all change.
Do you like the idea of being able to explore ancient Egypt without having to stab anyone?
