A new trailer for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, isn't what you'd expect it to be. Instead of showing any new in-game footage, Ubisoft has instead debuted a new social networking experience that is designed to compliment the game itself after release and help promote it in the run up.
Called The Watch, the network features achievements to unlock, levels to go up, puzzles to solve and lots of behind the scenes details like concept art and new trailers. Teases of gameplay features will also be present along too and missions that must be completed in order to progress to deeper levels of the Assassin's Creed experience.
You'll need to preorder the game to gain access. When doing so, you should be sent a code by the retailer, which can be input into your Uplay account.
Ubisoft is making a big splash about this as a VIP program/premium feature, hoping that among the extras you get, the sheer exclusivity of it will draw people in.
While it doesn't spell it out, images from the trailer seem to suggest that The Watch will be smartphone and tablet compatible, as well as accessible from your PC. Still, I can't help but wonder how much Ubisoft spent on something that seems like it could have been handled through Facebook.
