It looks like RGB backlighting has made the jump from our peripherals to graphics cards, as ASUS' new Republic of Gamers STRIX edition GTX 1080, comes fitted with its own RGB lighting that you can control from the ASUS software suite.
.
The suite is known as the Aura and it lets you pick from any part of the colour spectrum, control whether it's static, breaths, strobes or cycles and you can even add your own special effects.
Beyond showing off though, perhaps the most useful aspect of the lighting set up is that you can adjust it to reflect your card's temperature. If it's idling and the temperatures are low it can sit in the blue/green part of the spectrum, but as things heat up and it gets into the higher degrees, it can transition through yellow, orange and finally to red.
What do you think of GPU lighting? Unnecessary and just for showing off, or could it actually serve some purpose?
