Asus continues to push the bounds of what a gaming monitor can be, with a ludicrous 49-inch curved, high-refresh rate, ultrawide display. The ROG Strix SG49VQ is an enormous display with an 1800R curvature for complete peripheral wraparound gaming. It has a resolution of 3,840 x 1,080 pixels that are displayed in a 32:9 aspect ratio and it has a tonne of features to go with it.
It comes with full support for FreeSync 2, so can smooth out frames with FPS jumps if you have an AMD graphics card. It also has support for HDR 400, so will feature deeper blacks, whiter whites and overall greater color representation. Its 144Hz refresh rate means that if you have the hardware to power it you can play with silky smooth animations and less input lag from your peripherals and Asus' Shadow Boost technology will make it so that any enemies hiding in the dark will be visible for you to take down.
It also supports up to three-way picture in picture, which Asus suggests could be used to have a game in the center of the screen, a webcam stream on the left-hand side so you can see how you look at a glance, and a Twitch chat on the right for interacting with fans -- all on one screen.
Unfortunately, although ASUS has unveiled this monster display, it hasn't released the official specifications yet. Hexus notes that we don't know what kind of panel it uses, nor do we have a price, or its expected date of shipping.
We do know that you'll be able to make adjustments to the display using Asus' DispalyWidget software utility, which will likely offer a more intuitive interface than the monitor's own.
