In a pretty bizarre turn of events, Atari (you know, one of the world's most respected developers back in the 80s) has announced that it will be releasing a fitness application next year. It's called AtariFit and the idea is that it links up with apps like Runkeeper and Fitbit, to track your fitness achievements. If you break through certain goals, you'll access old games like Centipede and Pong.
The kind of games you can get for free in any number of locations, or in advanced forms of various platforms for a few dollars.
"It's a gamified fitness experience with an Atari twist," said Atari CEO Fred Chesnais (via Eurogamer).
The app will work on both iOS and Android platforms and is set for release in 2015. There's also some sort of partnership between Atari and Walgreens, though in what capacity isn't clear.
Is Atari's foray into fitness apps as disappointing for you guys as it is for me?
