Attack on Titan 2, A.O.T 2, or Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom 2, as it's known in some markets, is just as horrifying as its predecessors if the new screengrabs are anything to go by. Set to debut in early 2018 on all major platforms, the Koei Tecmo game is shaping up to ape the second series of the anime fairly faithfully.

Based on the hit manga and anime of the same name, known as Shingeki no Kyojin in its native Japan, Attack on Titan follows the story of the last remnants of humanity which hide from monstrous, sexless "titans" behind enormous walls. When the "Colossal" and "Armored" titan breach those walls though and force humanity further into a corner, the Survey Corps reacts aggressively and it's down to them and some of their famed characters to take the fight back to the greater titan threat.

In the second season of the anime and this game based on that, the Survey Corps faces a brand new threat from yet another intelligent enemy, the "Beast" titan and once again their most important asset is stolen away. It's down to them to get it back, all the while edging ever closer to the secrets of the world contained within the Yaegar basement somewhere in the Titan infested world beyond the inner walls.

The new game will let players take on some of these threats first hand as various characters from the show, as well as offering different training exercises and multiplayer modes for more expanded gameplay. The new screengrabs of the game show that the titans are just as terrifying as ever and that it will take the likes of Erwin, Eren, Hange and Mikasa to take them down.

Attack on Titan 2 is set for release on Xbox One, PS4, Windows PCs and the Nintendo Switch sometime in early 2018.
