One of the most requested features by players of the insanely popular, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, is region locking. That is, making it so that only players of certain regions can play together. Namely China, because China is where the game is most popular, but also where most of the world's cheaters and hackers tend to come from, so Western players would simply rather not play with them.
Previously PUBG Corp, the developer behind the game, has said that region locks wouldn't work, for a number of reasons, but has now relented on that and said that it hopes to be able to implement them soon. It doesn't state that it's specifically to lock out China, but says instead that it's to provide a "stable network experience for our players," in a blog post.
One important note from this however, is that this update won't make it impossible for international friends to play together. If you have a friend in an EU region, you can still join their servers and vice versa.
The plan for now, is for this update to go out to a limited number of gamers in the near future as part of a wider test of the feature, before being rolled out to the wider player base if and when it's proved to be viable.
PUBG Corp promises to provide a more detailed timeline of the update soon.
Alongside this news, it also announced a new weapon skin system that makes it easier to change out what your weapons look like by arranging your skins by type, category and in alphabetical order. There are also a number of new crates being added to the game, both free and paid.
Though of course, you shouldn't be buying those paid crates. We don't want to encourage that sort of behavior from developers.
