If you needed any more indication that virtual reality is going to be a big deal, the major players are starting to come on board with it. Announced at its Pre-E3 show, Bethesda is set to bring both DOOM and Fallout 4 to virtual reality, starting with the HTC Vive.
Neither game is going to be ready for some time as this is quite a big development from Bethesda. Fallout 4 VR isn't going to arrive until early in 2017 and DOOM VR doesn't have a planned release date at all. It will be worked on in tandem though, so we would guess it will appear within a similar time frame.
Assuaging concerns that Bethesda would slim down the experiences to make them more VR compatible, game director Todd Howard stated that Fallout 4 VR would be the entire game. It's not clear if that means just the base game, or all of the DLC packs that will have been released by that point as well, but we wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter.
What will be interesting is seeing how a big studio like Bethesda handles first person locomotion over large distances.
In other pre-E3 Bethesda news, it will be showing off a new Prey game at E3, as well as Prey Reboot - a remake of the original. There are also plans to show off new Dishonored 2 footage and announcements for new Fallout 4 DLC set to come out over the next few months.
It also announced a Skyrim remastering is in the works, as well as a Special Edition launch coming soon. For the retro gamers out there too, Quake: Champions is making a comeback.
How do you think Bethesda will handle first person movement in VR?
