Bethesda explains the retro-future of the Prey reboot

The upcoming reboot of Prey is taking things in a very different direction to the first. Not only is the original Native American angle being ditched for something a little more typical, but the world in which it takes place will be entirely different. In this one, JFK was never assassinated and went on to do great things and have a big impact on the world around him.

That means that the decor and feel of Prey's world is a little more retro than you might imagine, with a lot of plush leather, dark woods and glass in a style that Bethesda describes as "Neo Deco." It explained all about it in a new video breakdown of the game's aesthetics.

The game takes place in 2332, way, way in advance of where we are now technologically. However the Talos station where the game takes place is not all about function and form, there's plenty of style and luxury there too. It was built by a mega corporation which wanted to attract everyone it could to the station for business, so there are plush furnishings, wide open spaces, plants and more to make people feel at home.

It's certainly an interesting setting for a space based shooter.
