Bethesda's next game might be an open-world spin on the Game of Thrones universe, if the store page of Target's website is to be believed. It lacks a lot of detail so should be filed in the 'very shaky' rumor section for now, but it has gotten us a little excited.
Despite having released a number of high-profile games in the years since Skyrim's original release in 2011, the open-world, medieval RPG was easily Bethesda's biggest hit with expanded gaming audiences. It's the RPG casuals have played, modders have played, hardcore gamers have played and everyone in between. That's why it's being ported over the Nintendo Switch and has been rereleased several times on PC already.
Making a Skyrim-like Game of Thrones game would be a marriage of two very popular franchises and would certainly make a lot of sense. The Target page that gives us hope of such a game was spotted by Redditors and simply lists it as "Bethesda: Game of Thrones," in its future brands category. There's no details, no box image, no game art, nothing.
Just the name, but it's enough to get everyone excited.
There was no announcement during last night's season finale of the show and Bethesda has previously turned down the Game of Thrones license, so it seems unlikely this is real, but we still have our fingers crossed.
