The new Kickstarter game doing the rounds on various publications today is , a side-scrolling hack and slash game with elements of Lovecraft, Dark Souls and Castlevania, all with a pixellated art style. Also, it's incredibly violent.
The debut trailer for the game shows the player navigating hellish landscapes, hacking off heads, facing mortal wounds themselves and ultimately being ripped in half by a giant baby, which is being held by something even more enormous and even more terrifying. Somehow.
Developed by the team behind The Last Door, Blasphemous was only asking for $50,000, but it's already smashed that goal and is now heading into stretch goal territory. Currently sitting at $78,000, the campaign has earned a boss only mode, where players can attack the campaign but without the intervening levels - just bosses, one after the other. They've also managed to breach the New Game+ mode goal, which means being able to play through the game again after completion, with new challenges, unlocks and secrets along the way.
You can support the game for everything from a dollar, right up to $1,500 for a three-day guided tour of the City of Seville in Spain, physical gifts and the game itself. Someone has already taken the developers up on that pledge, so get in there soon if you don't want to miss out.
Although it's worth remembering that Kickstarter games and their release dates can change, Blasphemous is slated for a November 2018 debut.
