During an Activision Blizzard earnings call Blizzard Entertainment co-founder Mike Morhaime confirmed that the company’s long in development Project Titan is undergoing substantial change and that it may not even be an MMORPG anymore.
"We're in the process of selecting a new direction for the project and re-envisioning what we want the game to be," he said.
"While we can't talk about the details yet, it is unlikely to be a subscription-based MMORPG."
Project Titan has been in development since 2007. Last May, Blizzard upheaved its development and slashed its team to 30 members, down from its original size of 100+ members. The game is not expected to release before 2016.
Extra-long development cycle – check. Replacing staff amid development – check. Changing technology and tools before launch – check. Large design changes halfway through development – check. Looks like Project Titan is right on track to be the next Duke Nukem Forever.
