Following years of development, VR stealth title Budget Cuts, is finally going to be released in May of this year. The promising title first wowed early virtual reality adopters with a demo of its mixture of stealth creeping, combat and teleporting mechanics. While the demo was expansive in its own right though, it was far from a finished experience and fans have been waiting for it to make its official debut ever since.
Now they look set to get it too, with a promised eight hours+ of gameplay for those who decide to take the plunge.
Budget Cuts is a game that has you using the VR teleporting mechanic which has become somewhat shunned in the years since the release of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. However, where Budget Cuts was ahead of the curve and still is in some respects, is how it uses it. The teleporting works like Valve's location experience system, whereby you pull the teleporting location to your face. You can also see a preview of it and interact with that preview -- throwing weapons through it, leaning your head through for a quick look, etc.
As for the gameplay itself, Budget Cuts has you sneaking around futuristic office blocks taking out robotic enemies, stealing keys, opening boxes and safes, knocking out lighting systems and hacking, among other things. The original demo was a lot of fun, so the new game should be equally so.
Expect it to hit Steam and the Oculus Store in May for $30.
