Activision announced that Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360 has sold more than one million units in the U.S. alone, according to NPD Funworld.
The title is the No. 1 best selling game on Xbox 360 and continues to be among the highest rated games for the platform, according to Gamerankings data. The news is great for Activision as CoD 2 was, indeed, a great game but it does suggest that games on the XBox 360 have not thrilled gamers this far.
It's been a long while since CoD 2 was released and no other X360 title has managed to spark gamer enthusiasm in quite the same way. Being the only next-generation console currently in the market you would expect the titles on offer to be extraordinary and tempt gamers; this has not yet happened and may suggest that developers will need to work harder on the gameplay elements lacking from many of the next-gen titles.
Activision has done extremely well with CoD and from what we have witnessed this far CoD 3 should be just as good if not better as a true next-generation title.
