Although the West has been a big player in the international gaming scene since professional high-level gaming became something people cared about, in the past few years it has fallen to the wayside with Chinese and Korean teams - particularly in RTS and MOBA titles - taking the top spot, often with ease.
However, this year some teams in NA are really showing some progression, like industry veterans Fnatic. While not quite reimagining the world of 2011 and 2012 where they stomped most opponents with ease, the return of team standout Rekkles - with a more subtle play style - has led to some impressive wins and an overall confident and steamrolling roster.
Fnatic isn't the only team doing well however. One of its old roster, ePeke is also doing well with his new team Origen, with big wins over League veterans Giants and H2k. It has a packed roster of players with years of experience playing the game and it shows.
As PCG points out, Elements is another strong team that has reshuffled its roster to try and iron out a few weak points, but it still has work to do as it lost to a team that Fnatic made look like amateurs: Unicorns of Love.
Still, it's good to see some teams outside of China and Korea looking so dominant. It will make this year's World Championships all the more exciting to see who will come out on top.
