CD Projekt Red, it turns out, is just as vulnerable as anyone else when it comes to hacking. The much loved developer and founder of GoG.com has announced that 1.9 million of its forum users have had their details exposed by a hack.
Fortunately though CD Projekt isn't the kind of company which would do so in a slapdash way. While a database of users was compromised, no information was stored in plaintext and it was only an old database that was hacked open. It did however take over six months to reveal the hack, which is said to have taken place in March last year.
CD Projekt initially confirmed it in December, though said it was unsure how much information was plundered. Now it has confirmed a Have I Been Pwnd report (via ITPro) that some information was stolen away, but that apart from usernames, no private information was disclosed.
CD Projekt Red joins a number of other high profile companies which had user information stolen away. While 1.9 million is not small number, it pales into comparison with the hacks others were hit by. Myspace lost over 130 million user's account details.
