XIII, the classic, cell-shaded FPS from the original Xbox-era of gaming in 2003, is getting a remake. The game will release in November this year across multiple platforms, including Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Windows PCs, and MacOS.
"We aim to craft the finest adventure for players and XIII is definitely in line with our publishing strategy. Revisiting this game came naturally as we felt this unique kind of story driven FPS experience was missing in today’s gaming landscape. Our goal is to bring XIII’s compelling story to a new generation of players with the best possible graphics and animations." Declares François Coulon, head of production at developer Microids, said in a statement — via AllGamesDelta.
The remake won't stray drastically from the original game, but will see the graphics, sounds, and animations updated for modern day systems. It will retain the original look and feel of the first XIII, with the cell-shaded aesthetic and comic-book-like cutaways and panels used to enhance headshot kills.
The game will play a little differently though. We're told that the gameplay mechanics will be reworked to modernize the experience while maintaining the "spirit" of the original game. It's not clear what that means just yet, but we'd presume it will lead to some adjustments into character aiming to take advantage of the improvements in twin-stick shooters from the past decade and a half.
