He's 20 years old and has been played over 10 billion times according to Namco and noe he is about to return to his roots. Nintendo are about to release an Old-Skool, visually, version of Pac-Man with a twist. The game will look and feel like the original so what could it offer todays demanding, every setting on High, gamer? Following the current trend in console gaming Pac-Man Vs will offer a multiplayer mode.
Many would argue that Pac-Man is the most loved gaming character ever created, its influence on Western culture is considerable, so much so in fact, that the original arcade machine is now exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
Pac-Man Vs will allow up to 4 people to play at the same time with three players controlling the ghosts, Inky, Pinky, Blinky and eh Clyde, on a TV while a fourth will make sure he munches as many pills, or is it blue and yellow, purple hills, as he can through a GBA. Those playing as the amiable but not too bright yellow man will have a full view of the level while the ghosts chasing our friend will have a limited field of vision, only able to see the maze from the inside.
Interesting though it sounds it is doubtful that such a retro game would appeal to many current gamers on its own merit so Nintendo are planning the best possible offer for it; it will be bundled free with other Namco GameCube games. The first ones to include the pill-muncher will be R: Racing Evolution, and I-Ninja.
Namco obviously, believes that there are still enough Pac-man lovers out there today who will feel the offer is too good to miss.
