With the global shortage of high-end graphics cards effecting miners just as much as gamers in early 2021, some of the former are now turning to a new crop of RTX 30-series gaming laptops to satiate their need for additional GPU power. One particular Chinese cryptocurrency miners have released a video showing their setup where they use hundreds of RTX 30-series gaming laptops from the Hasee brand.
Nvidia has claimed several times that it has strictly controlled the supply of its new-generation gaming hardware, even restricting access to GPUs to press, retailers, and some retail buyers. In reality, bots have run amok on all sorts of platforms, including Nvidia's own, and it seems unable, or unwilling to prevent thousands of gaming graphics cards and gaming laptops from ending up in the hands of miners who are able to pay above board prices because they expect to turn a profit from the hardware.
As VideoCardz shows, this Hasee laptop mining farm is stocked with hundreds upon hundreds of laptops, all using Nvidia's new generation graphics. Those GPUs have only just been released, so it's clear these miners aren't buying up older cards, or older stock. This is brand new, straight from the factory, and Nvidia is completely unable or disinterested in stopping it.
This is a problem doesn't appear to be going away, and is making it impossible for gamers to buy anything at reasonable prices. As the value of cryptocurrencies rises too, that will only become more problematic over the next six months. If you want a new GPU this generation, it's going to be about luck as much as your bank balance.
