Fortnite might be a competitive game by its very nature -- it is every man or squad for themselves after all -- but of all the Battle Royale games out there, it is a little on the silly side. There is a lot of dancing, emoting, and thanking of the bus driver, which isn't the experience that a number of pros and semi-pros wish to be taking part in. For them, Epic is adding a competitive mode in the coming months.
"We are aware of a strong desire from competitive players for more opportunities to compete directly against one another within the same match," "Development recently began for a robust competition system which will allow for all players to compete with one another and be recognised for their accomplishments."
It didn't go into explicit detail about what the competitive mode within Fortnite would be like, but it sounds like it might be possible for you to officially target beating another player or group of players, in order to showcase your skills against friends and family who end up in the same match as you.
Whatever it is will be launching this Fall and will go hand in hand with Epic's continued support for real world competitions and prizes, for which it has pledged to contribute a whopping $100 million over the first year of the game's official release, which will stretch through to the middle of 2019.
Some of those tournaments have been aimed at professional gamers, but Epic has also pushed celebrity tournaments and big games for popular streamers, including the heavily scrutinized and viewed Celebrity Pro Am earlier this year which saw some $3 million up for grabs in charity prize money.
