Corsair has introduced a number of new 12 stick memory modules in its Vengeance LPX range of DDR4 with kits ranging in size from 96GB to a whopping 192GB. All kits are made up of 12 memory modules in 8GB or 16GB capacities each, with differing speed and timings. Targeting servers and high end desktops built on Intel's 28-core Xeon W-3175X CPUs, the new kits range in price from $1,500 all the way up to $3,000.
For that kind of money, it's only fair that Corsair bundles in a pair of memory cooling housings too. Each comes equipped with a small cooling fan which will help move air around the LPX modules.
The lowest speed offered by this new range of Vengeance LPX memory runs at 2,666MHz with a CAS timing of 16. There are also options for 3,2000MHz, 3,600MHz, and 4,000MHz memory kits. These are the same RAM sticks that can be had in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB configurations, but since they're targeting the super-powered Intel chip, Corsair has now made them available in the larger capacities.
You'll need deep pockets for such a collection of memory, but when you're already spending $3,000 on a CPU, spending a further $3,000 on RAM may not seem like too bad an investment. Overall systems running the new Xeon CPU are likely to edge close to $10,000 all in, but the performance offered by the platform should be nigh-unprecedented. AMD Ryzen Threadripper set ups would offer a reasonable comparison in terms of performance at a much reduced price, but benchmarks have suggested that the Xeon system is simply more capable at this time.
Third-generation Threadripper chips could well change that though.
