Gabe Newell is a pretty well known 'character' in the world of gaming. Beyond being the head of one of the world's most dominant gaming developers and platform providers, he's entered a somewhat legendary status as the bearded face of the 'PC Master Race.'
He's so iconic in-fact, that the developer of Crawl, Powerhoof, wanted to add him to its game as a boss fight. To pitch the idea, it even created an animation of the character in game, who powered himself up from tubby, blue-polo-shirted Gabe, into bearded Gaben, a knife wielding, glowing powerhouse of death.
Artist at Powerhoof, Barny Cummings, also said in his communique to Valve, that he would provide images of himself, should the company wish to retaliate by putting him in any future games. That sounds more like a wish than much of a comeback, but perhaps it worked, as surprisingly, Valve is happy for it to go ahead.
"Short sweet email from Valve today giving the go ahead for this silly thing :) turns out Valve are cool- who knew?" said Powerhoof on Twitter.
Perhaps the reason Valve eventually gave this the thumbs up is because Cummings also pointed out that the time people spent fighting Gabe(n) in Crawl meant they wouldn't be making bad jokes about Half Life 3.
Feel free to make them as usual in the comments below.
