Crusader Kings III players love their pets, and getting their hair cut

Crusader Kings III is four years old, and as an anniversary treat, Paradox Interactive have released a whole bunch of statistics, showing how many times players have petted their dogs and cats, died of the Black Plague, and even had haircuts.

News in brief

  • Crusader Kings III is four years old
  • Players seem to really love their pets
  • Ireland and Brittania are the top places to begin playthroughs

The stats are a fun look back on what players have accomplished over the past four years, and as is to be expected of gamers, pets have not been neglected. As a whole, Crusader Kings III players have nuzzled their faithful dogs almost five and a half million times. Cats seem to be even more popular with their rulers-to-be, having been petted just over six million times. Don't like how felines are maintaining their lead on last year's stats? Dog lovers need to get to it and start patting their hounds even more.

Over a million characters have died due to a pandemic, of which fewer than you think is likely to be down to the almighty black plague, as that event has only triggered under 23,000 times. On the lighter side, the barbershop has been used just over 39 million times. Good on you, keeping your rulers locks under control.

The whimsical stats aren't the only things shared in this update, though. By and far away the most popular place to begin a playthrough was the island of Brittania, with 24 million players starting there. The next most popular place was France, with just over 14 million starts, closely followed by Scandinavia, Byzantium, and then Spain coming in fifth place. Of the pre-defined characters to start as, Petty King Murchad of Ireland comes in at the top, which is impressive, as this stat doesn't include the tutorial.

Crusader Kings III seems to be doing well, too. Players have logged almost 226 million hours, with 1.5 million players starting playing the game this year alone. Crusader Kings as a genre has always been a niche choice, but as ever, those players who love it, absolutely put in the hours.
