Crytek, the company behind one of the more lush game engines of recent years and the system crashing Crysis games, has debuted a new trailer for a game it's been working on for a while now, called Arena of Fate. It looks very much like it's a MOBA and it features a bunch of fairy tale characters like Little Red Riding Hood and Robin Hood.
There's historical characters in there too though, creating some very strange mashups which Crytek seems very excited about:
"Imagine Joan of Arc and Robin Hood cooperating to hunt down Little Red Riding Hood – Wouldn’t that be terrific? But besides the game's iconic heroes, which everyone in the team really loves, we are also challenging ourselves to carefully craft a streamlined player experience that allows for both greater accessibility, and rich, deep, action-packed gameplay."
Set for release on consoles and PC later this year (the trailer ends with "Enter the Arena Summmer 2014"), the game is being made by Crytek Black Sea, which before being bought by Crytek and being given this little project, was called Black Sea Studios and produced Worldshift and Knights of Honor, which were released in the mid-2000s.
Do you guys think the world needs another MOBA? And what do you think of the mashup of historical characters with fictional ones?
It does make you wonder what the original people - like the aforementioned Joan of Arc - would think of their inclusion in a game like this.
