So often Warhammer 40,000 games give you a strategic overview of the battlefield, or put you in the shoes of the most powerful of space marine super warriors. But that's not the case with Darktide. A new game from the team that brought you the skaven-slaying Vermintide series of Warhammer Fantasy games, it sets you and up to three other players in the well worn boots of Imperial troops, just trying to stay alive in the hive city of Tertium. A hellscape of futurustic barbarity as the seeds of Chaos are sewn.
As with a lot of Warhammer 40,000 experiences, the atmosphere of the new game looks great, but there does appear to be a distinct lack of personality in the player characters, all of which appear to be Guardsman, or Inquisitor-bound servants, with only a blend of weapons and armour really differentiating them.
Perhaps the differences that exist will be more apparent in the final game and as we learn more about it, but then again, there is little room for frivolity and personality in the realm of monstrous gods and aliens that is the 41st millenium.
Darktide is currently slated for a 2021 release, though you can add it to your Wishlist and explore its Steam page now, if you wish.
