A new gameplay trailer for Phoenix Lab's Dauntless gives fans hyped about the upcoming Monster Hunter-like game a new look at how the game plays. While not exactly shot through the eyes of a player, the trailer joins a team of four as they go on a hunt, find a beast and slay it, before returning to the hub village of Ramsey via an airborne vessel.
Dauntless' world appears to be a string of floating islands, thereby making air travel mandatory for getting around. It's not clear from the trailer if the ship players used will be manually pilotable or if it will merely be a form of returning to the village where you can upgrade and augment your equipment and character.
Much like Monster Hunter, Dauntless will utilise resources garnered from the environment and the beasts that you fight to create new arms and armor, each helping you slay bigger and badder fantasy beasts. In this trailer see the ice-wielding owl bear of trailers past, as well as a new, squatter, four legged beast that utilises firey attacks to target players.
While that creature can be found in the lush forests and grassy plains of one island type though, the owl-creature is now much more at home in the icey confines of a very different island. The environment has a distinctly different look to it and could well play its own part in making the hunt more difficult.
Dauntless is slated for release sometime in Q4 2017 and Phoenix Labs is currently looking for beta players. You can sign up at the official website.
