This year was set to have a lot of big Shooter releases. There was the typical Call of Duty release that everyone was sort-of looking forward to, there was TitanFall, which ultimately turned out to be a flash in the pan and then there was Destiny, which despite failing to impress across the board, is still going strong after three months of release. So strong in-fact, that the numbers are in WoW levels - over 12 million.
12.869 million to be exact, making Destiny one of the most popular games in the world right now. Over 22 million guardians have been created and to make sure that they have plenty to do, Bungie now has more than 500 people working on the game.
All of this information was released in Bungie's weekly update, along with other stats: like the fact that the Vault of Glass raid boss, Atheon, has been defeated over 2.4 million times. Crota's End has been cleared far less mind you, with just 769 victories in the short week or so it's been available.
These are really impressive numbers for Bungie and show that it has a real potential winner on its hands moving forward. However, rumours still abound that it spent almost a half billion dollars on its creation, so chances are it still has some way to go to recoup that cost.
The question is, can Bungie maintain this momentum long enough to do that? It will need to keep the content fresh and exciting, unlike Titanfall which proved to be much shallower than initially thought.
What do you guys think of Destiny? Will it stand the test of time?
