Starting with the seventh sequel in the series, a lot of Final Fantasy fans started accusing Square Enix of destroying the franchise by churning out annual sequels that rely on the same old formula; and now the recent and ongoing demise of Final Fantasy XIV seems to have alerted the Japanese publisher to the faultiness of its methods.
Square Enix's has already delayed the Playstation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV by a year, extended the free trial period of the game's PC version for several months and now it just announced that its highly anticipated Deus Ex: Human Revolution has been delayed to the next financial year and that the company's full-year net profit forecast has been reduced by more than 90 percent.
"We came to realize that our management priority is to improve the development of our digital-entertainment products," was the reason given in the company's official statement.
Square Enix has cut its net profit forecast to 1 billion yen ($11.9 million) for the year ending March 31 from 12 billion ($142.8 million) yen previously forecast.
